Draft Grade — Seahawks
Overall B
ValueB NeedB TradesB FutureB-
A sensible, unshowy class lands the Seahawks a B.

The war room fell hard for Jackson Hawes, and it showed at the Round 7 slot: 33 picks ahead of a board that had other ideas.

That is a safety worth more than the slot they spent on him, plainly. A whole weekend of picks and edge rusher is somehow still a want.

With edge rusher, quarterback and other spots unsolved, spending premium capital on cornerback is the choice that costs them.

A workmanlike haul that should hold up just fine.

Pick Analysis
Pick27 Rnd1 Walter Nolen
In pick 27 they get a run-stuffing presence up front at fair value. A real need, handled.
Pick50 Rnd2 Nick Emmanwori
They will replay Nick Emmanwori at pick No. 50 for years; that is how good the value is. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Pick52 Rnd2 Marcus Mbow
A straight-up fair deal on Marcus Mbow at the 52nd pick, value and slot in agreement. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick59 Rnd2 Demetrius Knight Jr.
Demetrius Knight Jr. in No. 59 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick82 Rnd3 Zy Alexander
The board had cheaper options than Zy Alexander at Round 3, Pick 18, and it noticed. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Pick92 Rnd3 Jared Wilson
They liked Jared Wilson enough to skip the value, taking him in the 92nd overall pick. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick129 Rnd4 Cobee Bryant
A surprising call. With edge rusher, quarterback and other spots still to address, they spent pick No. 129 on Cobee Bryant, a cornerback they were not short of.
Pick137 Rnd4 Logan Brown
They paid up for Logan Brown at the Round 4 slot when waiting would have done the job. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick172 Rnd5 JJ Pegues
They jumped the gun on JJ Pegues, taking him earlier than his grade liked. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick175 Rnd5 Oronde Gadsden II
Value said wait; Oronde Gadsden II in No. 175 says they were not listening. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick223 Rnd7 Jackson Hawes
They reached a country mile for Jackson Hawes at pick 223, and the board is aghast. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick234 Rnd7 Isaac TeSlaa
Isaac TeSlaa in the 234th pick is fair value, right on his grade. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
