Draft Grade — Bears

FutureB-
The Bears bet the future on Williams. The board says B-. The search is over. The Bears handed the keys to Caleb Williams, and the whole operation now runs on his development. The bottom line is a respectable B-.
They banked enough surplus on Coleman to cover a lot of smaller sins. For all the activity, edge rusher went untouched, which is hard to explain.
Job largely done: offensive lineman settled and 3 of 8 of the wish list covered. Almost all the early capital went to that side of the ball.
Solid rather than spectacular, and there is nothing wrong with that.
Pick Analysis
Pick1
Rnd1
Caleb Williams
Caleb Williams at No. 1 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick9
Rnd1
Joe Alt
In pick No. 9 they get a building block for the line. A clean fit for the roster.
Pick75
Rnd3
Javon Baker
No drama and no debate, Javon Baker went about where he belonged in Round 3, Pick 11. It fills a real need, too.
Pick122
Rnd4
Brandon Coleman
Circle this one: Brandon Coleman at the 122nd overall pick is a fall that decides a draft. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
