Draft Grade — Lions
Overall B-
ValueC+ NeedB TradesB FutureB
More right than wrong for the Lions, and a B- to prove it.

The war room fell hard for Suntarine Perkins, and it showed at the 54th overall pick: 38 picks ahead of a board that had other ideas. Good, not great, and the B- says as much.

Leaving cornerback unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall. On value alone, Tate makes the weekend a net positive.

Edge rusher is handled and the depth chart looks a good deal healthier for it. They chose more darts over a bigger single swing.

A tidy weekend of work that should hold up just fine.

Pick Analysis
Pick23 Rnd1 Carnell Tate
In pick 23 they get a go-to option on the outside, outstanding value to boot. A real need, handled.
Pick50 Rnd2 Zion Young
Zion Young at the 50th overall pick is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick54 Rnd2 Suntarine Perkins
They left a pile of value on the table to take Suntarine Perkins this early at pick No. 54. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick117 Rnd4 Michael Trigg
They paid a round early for Michael Trigg in the Round 4 slot, more than the board wanted. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick134 Rnd4 DeMonte Capehart
A premium they did not need to pay, DeMonte Capehart a notch or two before his time. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Pick154 Rnd5 Jacob Rodriguez
No drama and no debate, Jacob Rodriguez went about where he belonged in the 154th pick. It fills a real need, too.
Pick188 Rnd6 Taylen Green
Taylen Green at pick 188 is money in the bank, a quarterback taken below his worth. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick209 Rnd6 Malik Hartford
By-the-book stuff, Malik Hartford at the 209th overall pick squarely in line with his ranking. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick221 Rnd7 Peyton Bowen
They went early on Peyton Bowen in No. 221, and the value did not follow. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick222 Rnd7 Amare Campbell
A tidy little value on Amare Campbell in Round 7, Pick 6, a step better than break-even. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
