Draft Grade — Steelers
Overall B-
ValueC+ NeedB- TradesC+ FutureB-
Good, not great, for the Steelers: B-.

The Solomon Byrd pick is the one that will follow the Steelers into the fall. They took him 56 spots ahead of his grade, and the board is not shy about saying so. A dependable weekend that grades out a B-.

They will answer for taking offensive lineman early while quarterback, safety and other spots went begging. Leaving quarterback unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall. On value alone, Jones makes the weekend a net positive.

All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but quarterback.

Pick Analysis
Pick28 Rnd1 Graham Barton
In the Round 1 slot they get a plug-and-play piece up front at fair value. More want than need.
Pick54 Rnd2 Zach Frazier
The needs board was loud and they turned it down, spending the 54th overall pick on Zach Frazier with quarterback, safety and other spots unsolved.
Pick84 Rnd3 Javon Baker
Javon Baker in Round 3, Pick 20 is fair value, right on his grade. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick98 Rnd3 Khyree Jackson
Khyree Jackson in pick 98 lands just on the right side of the ledger. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick119 Rnd4 James Williams
James Williams in slot 119 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick128 Rnd4 Elijah Jones
The board had Elijah Jones higher than pick No. 128, and the cornerback fell to them anyway. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick134 Rnd4 Tommy Eichenberg
A reach on Tommy Eichenberg in the Round 4 slot; the board had better options right there. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick156 Rnd5 Luke McCaffrey
Luke McCaffrey at the 156th pick is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick178 Rnd6 Jordan Jefferson
A straight-up fair deal on Jordan Jefferson at pick 178, value and slot in agreement. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick195 Rnd6 Logan Lee
A conviction pick on Logan Lee at slot 195 that the board grades a round light. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick206 Rnd6 Solomon Byrd
They reached a country mile for Solomon Byrd at pick No. 206, and the board is aghast. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
