FutureA-
Phillips should have been long gone. The Vikings pounced, and earned a A-. The Vikings ran the phones like sharks, prying loose value on deal after deal until the ledger was lopsided.
The Phillips pick alone nudges the whole weekend up a notch. For all the activity, quarterback went untouched, which is hard to explain.
Add it up and few war rooms did better this weekend, Kool-Aid McKinstry and all.
Pick Analysis
Pick32
Rnd1
Kool-Aid McKinstry
In pick 32 they get an island corner, outstanding value to boot. Need was not the driver here.
Pick42
Rnd2
Bralen Trice
Bralen Trice at Round 2, Pick 10 is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick60
Rnd2
Tyler Guyton
Somehow Tyler Guyton was still sitting there in the 60th pick, and they pounced on premier offensive lineman value. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick64
Rnd2
Adisa Isaac
A market-rate edge rusher, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Adisa Isaac. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick130
Rnd4
Leonard Taylor III
Leonard Taylor III in pick No. 130 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick148
Rnd5
Braelon Allen
By-the-book stuff, Braelon Allen at slot 148 squarely in line with his ranking. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick157
Rnd5
Jaylin Simpson
Jaylin Simpson at Round 5, Pick 21 is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. They doubled down on a strength rather than a need.
Pick160
Rnd5
Chau Smith-Wade
Chau Smith-Wade at No. 160 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. Depth on depth, at a spot that was hardly crying out.
Pick165
Rnd5
LaDarius Henderson
A reasonable price with a little left over, LaDarius Henderson in pick No. 165. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick179
Rnd6
Aki Ogunbiyi
They paid sticker price for Aki Ogunbiyi in the 179th overall pick, and that is fine. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick195
Rnd6
Andru Phillips
Andru Phillips in pick 195 is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. It is more luxury than necessity; they were already set here.
Pick230
Rnd7
Jaden Crumedy
A tidy little value on Jaden Crumedy in the 230th pick, a step better than break-even. A fine player at a spot low on the priority list.
Pick241
Rnd7
Matthew Jones
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Matthew Jones in the Round 7 slot. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
