Draft Grade — Bears

FutureA+
Quarterback settled, Williams in the fold, and a A- for the Bears. The one hole that towered over the rest is filled. The Bears spent their marquee pick on Caleb Williams, and for the first time in a while there is a real answer at quarterback. It holds up to a second look, which is why it earns the A-.
The Jackson value carries more weight than any single miss elsewhere. They robbed the room blind at the table, and it lifts the grade on its own. Reaching for Nugent left real value on the table behind him.
They covered a lot of ground and still skipped edge rusher, which is a strange place to end up. They will answer for taking TE-EDGE early while edge rusher, running back and other spots went begging.
In the end it comes back to Caleb Williams, and a haul good enough to build on right away.
Pick Analysis
Pick3
Rnd1
Caleb Williams
In the 3rd pick they get the face of the franchise. A real need, handled.
Pick14
Rnd1
Jer'Zhan Newton
In No. 14 they get a load in the middle at fair value. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Pick29
Rnd1
Brian Thomas Jr.
A straight-up fair deal on Brian Thomas Jr. at slot 29, value and slot in agreement. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick77
Rnd3
Roman Wilson
They paid sticker price for Roman Wilson in Round 3, Pick 13, and that is fine. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick97
Rnd3
Cade Stover
Hard to square with the roster. With positions of obvious need still on the board, Cade Stover adds a TE-EDGE and leaves edge rusher, running back and other spots untouched.
Pick111
Rnd4
Jaden Hicks
A reasonable price with a little left over, Jaden Hicks in pick 111. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Pick123
Rnd4
Drake Nugent
Drake Nugent at the 123rd overall pick is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick143
Rnd5
Khyree Jackson
Somehow Khyree Jackson was still sitting there in pick No. 143, and they pounced on premier cornerback value. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick149
Rnd5
James Williams
A slide stopped in pick 149, with James Williams worth more than the price. Depth on depth, at a spot that was hardly crying out.
Pick173
Rnd5
Joe Milton III
Joe Milton III at the 173rd overall pick is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick174
Rnd5
Nathan Thomas
Nathan Thomas in No. 174 is early enough to raise a brow, if not a full objection. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
