Draft Grade — Commanders
Overall B-
ValueC+ NeedB TradesB- FutureB-
Nothing loud, just a tidy B- for the Commanders.

You can hear the double-takes from here. The Commanders took Mohamed Kamara at the 100th pick, roughly 31 spots before his name belonged.

They covered a lot of ground and still skipped wide receiver, which is a strange place to end up. The Ford pick alone nudges the whole weekend up a notch. They left with cornerback solved and the rest of the wish list mostly ticked off.

Building through the lines is a philosophy, and they stuck to it.

Add it up and it is a good, unfussy class.

Pick Analysis
Pick2 Rnd1 Laiatu Latu
In slot 2 they get a double-digit-sack hope. A clean fit for the roster.
Pick34 Rnd2 Nate Wiggins
A market-rate cornerback, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Nate Wiggins. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick42 Rnd2 Cooper DeJean
They left a pile of value on the table to take Cooper DeJean this early at the 42nd pick. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick66 Rnd3 Mekhi Wingo
By-the-book stuff, Mekhi Wingo at the 66th overall pick squarely in line with his ranking. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick100 Rnd3 Mohamed Kamara
A real head-scratcher, Mohamed Kamara in pick 100 is miles ahead of his ranking. It fills a real need, too.
Pick102 Rnd4 Tommy Eichenberg
They took Tommy Eichenberg at par in the Round 4 slot, which is nothing to complain about. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
Pick139 Rnd5 Cole Bishop
A premium they did not need to pay, Cole Bishop a notch or two before his time. A minor need, but a need all the same.
Pick180 Rnd6 Jaylan Ford
Jaylan Ford at the 180th pick is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. Nice player, but the depth chart did not need him here.
Pick223 Rnd7 Jaylon Carlies
A straight-up fair deal on Jaylon Carlies at Round 7, Pick 3, value and slot in agreement. A want more than a need, though you can never have too many.
