Draft Grade — Panthers
Overall B
ValueB NeedB+ TradesB- FutureB-
A sensible, unshowy class lands the Panthers a B.

Every other box got a look, but linebacker did not. The Panthers will head to camp with the same hole they walked in with. Good, not great, and the B says as much.

Williams falling to them is the kind of break a good board is built to catch. Every board in the league had Cornelius lower, and that gap is the story. They went 5 of 9 on their needs, which is most of what a draft is for.

All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but linebacker.

Pick Analysis
Pick8 Rnd1 Abdul Carter
In the Round 1 slot they get a quarterback's worst nightmare at fair value. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Pick57 Rnd2 Tre Harris
By-the-book stuff, Tre Harris at the 57th overall pick squarely in line with his ranking. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick74 Rnd3 Jared Ivey
Jared Ivey in the 74th pick is exactly on the number, no argument either way. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick111 Rnd4 Miles Frazier
They took Miles Frazier at par in Round 4, Pick 9, which is nothing to complain about. The roster fit checks out.
Pick114 Rnd4 Jacob Parrish
Jacob Parrish in pick 114 is fair value, right on his grade. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick140 Rnd5 Nohl Williams
A quiet steal in slot 140: Nohl Williams for less than the market said. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick146 Rnd5 Brashard Smith
Nice patience on Brashard Smith, who had no business lasting to pick No. 146. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick163 Rnd5 Ajani Cornelius
The board had cheaper options than Ajani Cornelius at No. 163, and it noticed. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick230 Rnd7 Ja'Quinden Jackson
Ja'Quinden Jackson in pick 230 is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
