Phuko DRAFTING FOR THE49ers
Draft Selections
Draft Grade — 49ers
Overall
B-
ValueB-
NeedB+
TradesB-
FutureB-
A sensible, unshowy class lands the 49ers a B-. The war room fell hard for Garrett Dellinger, and it showed at the 252nd pick: 41 picks ahead of a board that had other ideas. More right than wrong, and a B- to match.
Emmanwori falling to them is the kind of break a good board is built to catch. That running back hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall.
Offensive lineman is handled and the depth chart looks a good deal healthier for it. Building through the lines is a philosophy, and they stuck to it.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but running back.
Pick Analysis
Pick11
Rnd1
Armand Membou
In pick No. 11 they get a plug-and-play piece up front at fair value. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Pick43
Rnd2
Nick Emmanwori
Circle this one: Nick Emmanwori at Round 2, Pick 11 is a fall that decides a draft. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
Pick75
Rnd3
Ozzy Trapilo
A straight-up fair deal on Ozzy Trapilo at the Round 3 slot, value and slot in agreement. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick100
Rnd3
Darius Alexander
Darius Alexander in slot 100 lands just on the right side of the ledger. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick113
Rnd4
Jacob Parrish
No edge and no loss on Jacob Parrish in pick 113; it is a wash and a sensible one. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
Pick138
Rnd4
Ty Robinson
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Ty Robinson well ahead of where he belonged. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick147
Rnd5
Jonah Monheim
Jonah Monheim in slot 147 is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick160
Rnd5
Clay Webb
A wild overpay on Clay Webb in the 160th pick, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick227
Rnd7
Isaac TeSlaa
Isaac TeSlaa at the Round 7 slot is right where the board had him, plain and simple. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick249
Rnd7
Nick Martin
Nick Martin at the 249th overall pick is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick252
Rnd7
Garrett Dellinger
Garrett Dellinger in No. 252 is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
