Draft Grade — Cowboys
Overall C
ValueC+ NeedB TradesB- FutureF
A weekend that raised as many questions as it answered. The Cowboys get a C.

The Cowboys clearly saw something nobody else did in Aaron Lewis, taking him 43 picks ahead of his grade. The board is not convinced.

That quarterback hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall. However the rest shakes out, King at that price is a win they earned.

Spend now, pay later; the math only works if this class delivers. They left with wide receiver solved and the rest of the wish list mostly ticked off.

Hit on Chop Robinson and the swing picks, and this ages a lot better than it grades today.

Pick Analysis
Pick35 Rnd2 Chop Robinson
Chop Robinson at the 35th pick is right where the board had him, plain and simple. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Pick43 Rnd2 Kiran Amegadjie
Kiran Amegadjie at pick 43 is a clear overpay, with better names still on the board. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick56 Rnd2 Kalen King
Kalen King is a better player than the Round 2 slot suggests; smart patience, rewarded. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick65 Rnd3 Payton Wilson
Payton Wilson in the 65th overall pick is fair value, right on his grade. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick66 Rnd3 Trey Benson
A market-rate running back, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Trey Benson. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick87 Rnd3 Zak Zinter
Zak Zinter at pick No. 87 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick124 Rnd4 James Williams
No drama and no debate, James Williams went about where he belonged in No. 124. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
Pick174 Rnd5 Javon Baker
By-the-book stuff, Javon Baker at pick No. 174 squarely in line with his ranking. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick212 Rnd6 Xavier Thomas
Xavier Thomas at the Round 6 slot is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. A want dressed up as a pick, at a spot they had covered.
Pick245 Rnd7 Aaron Lewis
A wild overpay on Aaron Lewis in pick 245, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. Pure best-available; the position was not exactly begging.
