Draft Grade — Saints
Overall D
ValueB- NeedB+ TradesF FutureB-
The Saints got the worse of every deal, and it shows in the D.

The Saints clearly saw something nobody else did in Tyler Harrell, taking him 159 picks ahead of his grade. The board is not convinced. It grades a D, and the process earned it.

The trade table is where this weekend went wrong. They punted on interior defensive lineman, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest. They banked enough surplus on McCarthy to cover a lot of smaller sins.

Bottom line, they will need several of these picks to beat their grades just to break even, and interior defensive lineman is still a hole.

Pick Analysis
Pick18 Rnd1 Cooper DeJean
In the 18th overall pick they get a potential shutdown corner. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Pick19 Rnd1 Taliese Fuaga
In Round 1, Pick 19 they get protection for the quarterback at fair value. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Pick27 Rnd1 Bralen Trice
In the Round 1 slot they get a problem off the edge, though they paid up to get him. The biggest hole, addressed.
Pick45 Rnd2 Xavier Legette
Value with a capital V on Xavier Legette in No. 45, a genuine coup. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick66 Rnd3 J.J. McCarthy
J.J. McCarthy at slot 66 is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick67 Rnd3 Payton Wilson
Payton Wilson in pick 67 is fair value, right on his grade. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Pick170 Rnd5 Josh Proctor
They went early on Josh Proctor in pick No. 170, and the value did not follow. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
Pick176 Rnd6 Cody Schrader
A slide stopped in Round 6, Pick 1, with Cody Schrader worth more than the price. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick177 Rnd6 Marcus Harris
They reached into another round for Marcus Harris, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick192 Rnd6 Erick All
This one needs a full-page explanation: Erick All in the 192nd overall pick, miles early. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick200 Rnd6 Tyler Harrell
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Tyler Harrell. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
