Yves DRAFTING FOR THEPatriots

Draft Grade — Patriots
Overall
A-
ValueC+
NeedB
TradesA+
FutureA+
The Patriots fleeced the room on the phones and earned a A-. The Patriots treated their own grade as gospel and everyone else's as noise, spending the 219th overall pick on Traeshon Holden a full 146 spots early. Very little went wrong, and the A- is earned.
The Arroyo value carries more weight than any single miss elsewhere. The dealing alone would carry a lesser class.
If this class has a fault line, it runs straight through edge rusher. The veteran additions, Tyler Smith chief among them, give the class a floor the rookies alone would not.
In the end it comes back to Wyatt Milum, and a haul good enough to build on right away.
Pick Analysis
Pick13
Rnd1
Wyatt Milum
In pick No. 13 they get a cornerstone up front. A clean fit for the roster.
Pick36
Rnd2
Donovan Jackson
They reached a country mile for Donovan Jackson at Round 2, Pick 4, and the board is aghast. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick44
Rnd2
Nick Emmanwori
A safety of that caliber at the 44th pick is the definition of value, full stop. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick67
Rnd3
Tyler Warren
Tyler Warren in the 67th overall pick should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick78
Rnd3
Jihaad Campbell
Somehow Jihaad Campbell was still sitting there in No. 78, and they pounced on premier linebacker value. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Pick81
Rnd3
Deone Walker
A quiet steal in pick 81: Deone Walker for less than the market said. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick138
Rnd5
Nick Nash
Nick Nash at slot 138 is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick140
Rnd5
Carson Schwesinger
Carson Schwesinger at the Round 5 slot is money in the bank, a linebacker taken below his worth. They added to a strength when a need was still open elsewhere.
Pick165
Rnd5
Ja'Corey Brooks
A real head-scratcher, Ja'Corey Brooks in pick No. 165 is miles ahead of his ranking. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick219
Rnd7
Traeshon Holden
Traeshon Holden in the 219th overall pick is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick220
Rnd7
Elijah Arroyo
They barely believed it either: Elijah Arroyo still on the board at No. 220. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick238
Rnd7
RJ Harvey
RJ Harvey in Round 7, Pick 22 is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
