Draft Grade — Chargers
Overall B-

No fireworks, just a tidy B- for the Chargers.

The Jabbar Muhammad selection is the head-turner. The Chargers reached 40 spots for him, and it will define how this weekend is remembered. The bottom line is a respectable B-.

They covered a lot of ground and still skipped quarterback, which is a strange place to end up. The Horsley pick alone nudges the whole weekend up a notch. Edge rusher was the priority and it is no longer a question, which is most of the job.

Good work on the whole, with quarterback the one box left unchecked.

Pick Analysis
Pick22 Rnd1 Mike Green
In No. 22 they get a premier pass rusher. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Pick55 Rnd2 Alfred Collins
By-the-book stuff, Alfred Collins at slot 55 squarely in line with his ranking. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick86 Rnd3 Danny Stutsman
No drama and no debate, Danny Stutsman went about where he belonged in Round 3, Pick 22. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Pick125 Rnd4 Jaylin Lane
Fair-plus on Jaylin Lane, a quiet win that adds up over a draft. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick158 Rnd5 Jake Briningstool
They liked Jake Briningstool enough to skip the value, taking him in the 158th overall pick. It fills a real need, too.
Pick181 Rnd6 Jaydon Blue
Jaydon Blue at pick 181 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick199 Rnd6 Upton Stout
Upton Stout in the Round 6 slot is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
Pick209 Rnd6 Fadil Diggs
They left a pile of value on the table to take Fadil Diggs this early at the 209th overall pick. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick214 Rnd6 Jabbar Muhammad
Jabbar Muhammad at the 214th pick is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick256 Rnd7 Cam Horsley
Cam Horsley slipping to slot 256 is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
