The phones sank the 49ers this weekend: D-.

The phones were a trap the 49ers kept walking into, shipping out surplus on nearly every deal.

They will need Van Pran to outplay his draft slot in a hurry to justify it. Leaving running back unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall. Getting Washington where they did is the sort of value that quietly makes a class.

The roster is better shaped than it was, with offensive lineman chief among the fixes.

Bottom line, they will need several of these picks to beat their grades just to break even, and running back is still a hole.

In pick No. 5 they get a blindside protector, reach and all. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
