Draft Grade — Cardinals

The Cardinals cashed the board's mistake on Hicks: A-. If you want a masterclass in dealing, watch the Cardinals, who turned every swap into a profit this weekend. Little to argue with here, and the A- says so.
The quarterback spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at. With quarterback, running back and other spots unsolved, spending premium capital on cornerback is the choice that costs them. Hicks falling to them is the kind of break a good board is built to catch.
In the end it comes back to Dallas Turner, and a haul good enough to build on right away.
Pick Analysis
Pick13
Rnd1
Dallas Turner
In slot 13 they get a premier pass rusher at fair value. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Pick30
Rnd1
Jackson Powers-Johnson
In the 30th overall pick they get protection for the quarterback. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Pick35
Rnd2
Kool-Aid McKinstry
Nothing to complain about; Kool-Aid McKinstry went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
Pick69
Rnd3
Devontez Walker
By-the-book stuff, Devontez Walker at No. 69 squarely in line with his ranking. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick71
Rnd3
Brandon Dorlus
They paid up for Brandon Dorlus at Round 3, Pick 7 when waiting would have done the job. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick90
Rnd3
Caelen Carson
A surprising call. With quarterback, running back and other spots still to address, they spent the Round 3 slot on Caelen Carson, a cornerback they were not short of.
Pick99
Rnd3
Mekhi Wingo
Mekhi Wingo in pick No. 99 is the kind of reach that only looks good if he outplays it. The roster fit checks out.
Pick104
Rnd4
Jaden Hicks
You do not let a safety like Jaden Hicks reach the 104th pick and blink. They did not. A minor itch, scratched.
Pick110
Rnd4
Leonard Taylor III
No drama and no debate, Leonard Taylor III went about where he belonged in Round 4, Pick 10. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick112
Rnd4
Blake Fisher
A straight-up fair deal on Blake Fisher at the 112th overall pick, value and slot in agreement. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick113
Rnd4
Cedric Gray
Cedric Gray at pick 113 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
