FutureD-
The Bears found their guy under center in Williams: B-. The search is over. The Bears handed the keys to Caleb Williams, and the whole operation now runs on his development. Good, not great, and the B- says as much.
They won the margins on every swap, and it adds up fast. Spending an early pick on TE-EDGE with interior defensive lineman, running back and other spots open is the decision the grade keeps circling back to. Leaving interior defensive lineman unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall.
Getting Kinchens where they did is the sort of value that quietly makes a class. If Van Pran pans out, nobody remembers the price. If not, this is the pick they hear about.
Solid rather than spectacular, and there is nothing wrong with that.
Pick Analysis
Pick1
Rnd1
Caleb Williams
In No. 1 they get their quarterback of the future at fair value.
Pick9
Rnd1
Rome Odunze
A straight-up fair deal on Rome Odunze at slot 9, value and slot in agreement. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick43
Rnd2
Kamren Kinchens
They robbed the room for Kamren Kinchens here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Pick75
Rnd3
Sedrick Van Pran
A conviction pick on Sedrick Van Pran at the 75th pick that the board grades a round light. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick109
Rnd4
Matt Goncalves
Matt Goncalves at the Round 4 slot is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick110
Rnd4
Cooper Beebe
Cooper Beebe in pick 110 is fair value, right on his grade. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick127
Rnd4
Cade Stover
Of all the spots to shop, they chose TE-EDGE. Cade Stover in the 127th overall pick leaves interior defensive lineman, running back and other spots for later.
Pick146
Rnd5
Darius Robinson
They paid up for Darius Robinson at Round 5, Pick 10 when waiting would have done the job. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick186
Rnd6
Jacob Cowing
They read the board right and Jacob Cowing was the payoff at the 186th pick. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick232
Rnd7
Dwight McGlothern
Dwight McGlothern in the Round 7 slot is a bargain the rest of the room will envy. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
