More right than wrong for the Steelers, and a B- to prove it. The war room fell hard for Keaten Wade, and it showed at Round 7, Pick 8: 55 picks ahead of a board that had other ideas. Nothing here to lose sleep over; call it a B-.
They covered a lot of ground and still skipped quarterback, which is a strange place to end up. The Norfleet value carries more weight than any single miss elsewhere. Almost all the early capital went to that side of the ball.
In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the quarterback spot they never got to.
Pick Analysis
Pick21
Rnd1
Makai Lemon
In pick No. 21 they get a true top target. A real need, handled.
Pick53
Rnd2
Caleb Tiernan
They went early on Caleb Tiernan in No. 53, and the value did not follow. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
Pick76
Rnd3
Josiah Trotter
Josiah Trotter slid further than he should have, and slot 76 is lovely value for the linebacker. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick91
Rnd3
Nicholas Singleton
Nicholas Singleton at the 91st pick is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick99
Rnd3
Caden Curry
They took Caden Curry at par in pick 99, which is nothing to complain about. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick126
Rnd4
CJ Daniels
They paid sticker price for CJ Daniels in the 126th overall pick, and that is fine. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick135
Rnd4
Davison Igbinosun
Davison Igbinosun in pick 135 is the kind of reach that only looks good if he outplays it. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick159
Rnd5
Daevin Hobbs
Value said wait; Daevin Hobbs in No. 159 says they were not listening. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick213
Rnd6
Fernando Carmona
Fernando Carmona in the 213th pick is exactly on the number, no argument either way. It is more luxury than necessity; they were already set here.
Pick214
Rnd6
Isaac Smith
By-the-book stuff, Isaac Smith at pick No. 214 squarely in line with his ranking. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick220
Rnd7
Micah Morris
Micah Morris in Round 7, Pick 4 is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. A want more than a need, though you can never have too many.
Pick224
Rnd7
Keaten Wade
They talked themselves into Keaten Wade at slot 224, and the board did not agree. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick228
Rnd7
Brett Norfleet
They read the board right and Brett Norfleet was the payoff at the Round 7 slot. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick237
Rnd7
Ricardo Hallman
No drama and no debate, Ricardo Hallman went about where he belonged in the 237th overall pick. It fills a real need, too.
