Draft Grade — Bears

FutureB+
The Bears finally solved quarterback, and it carried them to a D. The Bears lost the trade war and it was not close, handing partners the better end again and again.
They have staked the next five years on Caleb Williams, which is the only story that really matters here. They will answer for taking OLB-EDGE early while edge rusher, running back and other spots went begging. They covered a lot of ground and still skipped edge rusher, which is a strange place to end up.
If one pick saves this weekend, it is Puni.
Add it up and it is a weekend the front office will hope everyone forgets, edge rusher very much included.
Pick Analysis
Pick1
Rnd1
Caleb Williams
In No. 1 they get a franchise quarterback. A real need, handled.
Pick15
Rnd1
Rome Odunze
In pick 15 they get a difference-maker at receiver at fair value. A clean fit for the roster.
Pick25
Rnd1
Jackson Powers-Johnson
A straight-up fair deal on Jackson Powers-Johnson at Round 1, Pick 25, value and slot in agreement. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick117
Rnd4
Javon Solomon
The needs board was loud and they turned it down, spending pick No. 117 on Javon Solomon with edge rusher, running back and other spots unsolved.
Pick119
Rnd4
Dominick Puni
The board fumbled Dominick Puni all the way to slot 119, and they scooped it up. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick122
Rnd4
Tyler Davis
Tyler Davis at the Round 4 slot is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick169
Rnd5
Luke McCaffrey
Luke McCaffrey at the 169th overall pick is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick219
Rnd6
Evan Williams
Nothing to complain about; Evan Williams went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. A minor itch, scratched.
