Draft Grade — 49ers
Overall B+
ValueC NeedB+ TradesA+ FutureB
The 49ers won the weekend at the trade table. Grade: B+.

You can fall in love with a player. You are not supposed to marry him in the wrong round. The 49ers did exactly that with Oluwafemi Oladejo in No. 118.

They won the margins on every swap, and it adds up fast. That is an offensive lineman worth more than the slot they spent on him, plainly. The quarterback spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at.

A workmanlike haul that should hold up just fine.

Pick Analysis
Pick14 Rnd1 Armand Membou
In the 14th pick they get an anchor for the offensive line, though they paid up to get him. The biggest hole, addressed.
Pick43 Rnd2 Tre Harris
Tre Harris at the Round 2 slot is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick75 Rnd3 Azareye'h Thomas
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Azareye'h Thomas in pick No. 75. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Pick76 Rnd3 Jaylin Noel
A big swing on Jaylin Noel at No. 76, well ahead of any board in the building. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick99 Rnd3 Jordan Phillips
A reach on Jordan Phillips in pick 99; the board had better options right there. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick112 Rnd4 Ozzy Trapilo
Taking Ozzy Trapilo in slot 112 is close to grand larceny; an offensive lineman that good had no business lasting this long. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick118 Rnd4 Oluwafemi Oladejo
A wild overpay on Oluwafemi Oladejo in pick 118, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick138 Rnd4 Jeffrey Bassa
The board had Jeffrey Bassa higher than the 138th overall pick, and the linebacker fell to them anyway. The roster fit checks out.
Pick139 Rnd4 Jonah Monheim
This one needs a full-page explanation: Jonah Monheim in No. 139, miles early. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick148 Rnd5 Bhayshul Tuten
Bhayshul Tuten in the 148th pick is fair value, right on his grade. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick170 Rnd5 Ajani Cornelius
Good price on Ajani Cornelius in slot 170, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick189 Rnd6 Oronde Gadsden II
They read the board right and Oronde Gadsden II was the payoff at pick No. 189. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick195 Rnd6 Jordan Hancock
Jordan Hancock in the Round 6 slot is exactly on the number, no argument either way. A minor need, but a need all the same.
Pick228 Rnd7 Teddye Buchanan
No drama and no debate, Teddye Buchanan went about where he belonged in Round 7, Pick 10. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick232 Rnd7 Shilo Sanders
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Shilo Sanders. A want more than a need, though you can never have too many.
Pick255 Rnd7 Joshua Simon
Joshua Simon in Round 7, Pick 37 is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
