Draft Grade — Bears
Overall B-
ValueC+ NeedB- TradesB FutureB-
No fireworks, just a tidy B- for the Bears.

The move everyone will second-guess came early. The Bears reached some 41 spots for Curtis Jacobs, and value like that does not grow back. A sturdy weekend that grades out a B-.

However the rest shakes out, Hardy at that price is a win they earned. A whole weekend of picks and interior defensive lineman is somehow still a want. The Williams pick reads as want over need, and the roster will feel it at interior defensive lineman, running back and other spots.

They went 5 of 8 on their needs, which is most of what a draft is for.

A competent weekend that does not make headlines and does not need to.

Pick Analysis
Pick4 Rnd1 Rome Odunze
In pick No. 4 they get a matchup problem out wide. A real need, handled.
Pick25 Rnd1 Darius Robinson
In the 25th pick they get a quarterback's worst nightmare, reach and all. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Pick27 Rnd1 Tyler Nubin
In the 27th overall pick they get a ballhawk on the back end, though they paid up to get him. Need was not the driver here.
Pick42 Rnd2 Xavier Worthy
A reach for Xavier Worthy in Round 2, Pick 10; a little patience would have been rewarded. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick58 Rnd2 Zach Frazier
They took Zach Frazier at par in pick 58, which is nothing to complain about. The roster fit checks out.
Pick75 Rnd3 Xavier Legette
They paid sticker price for Xavier Legette in the Round 3 slot, and that is fine. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick109 Rnd4 Theo Johnson
A big swing on Theo Johnson at pick 109, well ahead of any board in the building. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Pick111 Rnd4 James Williams
A surprising call. With interior defensive lineman, running back and other spots still to address, they spent No. 111 on James Williams, a safety they were not short of.
Pick143 Rnd5 Nehemiah Pritchett
Nehemiah Pritchett is a better player than the Round 5 slot suggests; smart patience, rewarded. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick148 Rnd5 Luke McCaffrey
Luke McCaffrey at the 148th overall pick is a clear overpay, with better names still on the board. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick156 Rnd5 Curtis Jacobs
Curtis Jacobs in the 156th pick is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick182 Rnd6 Drake Nugent
Drake Nugent in slot 182 is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. It fills a real need, too.
Pick229 Rnd7 Daequan Hardy
Daequan Hardy at pick No. 229 is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
