Draft Grade — Bears
Overall A-
ValueB- NeedB TradesA+ FutureA+
The Bears won the weekend at the trade table. Grade: A-.

The trade table was a mismatch, and the Bears were on the right end of it, hauling in a fortune in surplus value. Little to argue with here, and the A- says so.

The Gillotte pick is the one they will point to when this weekend is judged. Powers-Johnson has a lot of ground to make up just to look fairly priced. They covered a lot of ground and still skipped interior defensive lineman, which is a strange place to end up.

In the end it comes back to Rome Odunze, and a haul good enough to build on right away.

Pick Analysis
Pick13 Rnd1 Rome Odunze
In slot 13 they get a home-run threat at receiver. A clean fit for the roster.
Pick32 Rnd1 Nate Wiggins
In the Round 1 slot they get a potential shutdown corner at fair value. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Pick51 Rnd2 Brian Thomas Jr.
A market-rate wide receiver, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Brian Thomas Jr.. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick55 Rnd2 Brandon Dorlus
Brandon Dorlus at pick No. 55 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick64 Rnd2 Jackson Powers-Johnson
They paid up for Jackson Powers-Johnson at No. 64 when waiting would have done the job. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick68 Rnd3 Kingsley Suamataia
Nice patience on Kingsley Suamataia, who had no business lasting to the 68th overall pick. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick77 Rnd3 Malachi Corley
Malachi Corley in Round 3, Pick 13 is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick87 Rnd3 TreVeyon Henderson
TreVeyon Henderson in pick 87 is fair value, right on his grade. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick104 Rnd4 Kiran Amegadjie
They took Kiran Amegadjie at par in No. 104, which is nothing to complain about. It fills a real need, too.
Pick132 Rnd4 James Williams
By-the-book stuff, James Williams at the 132nd overall pick squarely in line with his ranking. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Pick141 Rnd5 Payton Wilson
No edge and no loss on Payton Wilson in the Round 5 slot; it is a wash and a sensible one. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick182 Rnd6 Ashton Gillotte
Ashton Gillotte slipping to Round 6, Pick 7 is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick225 Rnd7 Jahdae Barron
Jahdae Barron in slot 225 is early enough to raise a brow, if not a full objection. They doubled down on a strength rather than a need.
