FutureB
The Eagles checked most of the boxes and earned a B. The board owed the Eagles one, and it paid up: Andru Phillips, the No. 102 name on the board, sitting there at Round 4, Pick 20 like a gift left on the doorstep. They moved the roster forward and banked a B for it.
They covered a lot of ground and still skipped quarterback, which is a strange place to end up. They are betting Hopper proves the room right and everyone else wrong.
Good work on the whole, with quarterback the one box left unchecked.
Pick Analysis
Pick25
Rnd1
Cooper DeJean
In No. 25 they get a press-man option on the boundary. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Pick53
Rnd2
Darius Robinson
A quiet steal in the 53rd pick: Darius Robinson for less than the market said. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick64
Rnd2
Xavier Worthy
Xavier Worthy is a better player than the 64th overall pick suggests; smart patience, rewarded. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick88
Rnd3
Christian Mahogany
Christian Mahogany at No. 88 is a conviction pick that outran the value. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick120
Rnd4
Andru Phillips
Andru Phillips in slot 120 is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick132
Rnd4
James Williams
Quietly one of the better values of the day, James Williams at pick No. 132. A minor itch, scratched.
Pick161
Rnd5
Ty'Ron Hopper
A wild overpay on Ty'Ron Hopper in pick 161, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. Nice player, but the depth chart did not need him here.
Pick169
Rnd5
Tykee Smith
Tykee Smith slid further than he should have, and the 169th pick is lovely value for the safety. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick171
Rnd5
Tip Reiman
The board had cheaper options than Tip Reiman at the Round 5 slot, and it noticed. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick172
Rnd5
Nelson Ceaser
Nelson Ceaser in Round 5, Pick 36 is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick220
Rnd6
Gabe Hall
Gabe Hall at No. 220 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
