The steal of the weekend belongs to the Commanders and Tuten: C. Every swap seemed to tilt away from the Commanders, and the value they bled adds up to real damage. It nets out a thoroughly average C.
Whatever else happened, they won the night they took Tuten. They are betting Powell-Ryland proves the room right and everyone else wrong.
A whole weekend of picks and quarterback is somehow still a want.
So much rides on Matthew Golden that the real verdict is a season or two away.
Pick Analysis
Pick29
Rnd1
Matthew Golden
In the Round 1 slot they get a matchup problem out wide, and a steal at that. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Pick66
Rnd3
Alfred Collins
A quiet steal in pick No. 66: Alfred Collins for less than the market said. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick68
Rnd3
Darien Porter
Darien Porter in pick 68 is early enough to raise a brow, if not a full objection. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick128
Rnd4
Smael Mondon Jr.
Circle this one: Smael Mondon Jr. at the 128th overall pick is a fall that decides a draft. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
Pick133
Rnd4
Antwaun Powell-Ryland
They reached into another round for Antwaun Powell-Ryland, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick179
Rnd6
Bhayshul Tuten
Somehow Bhayshul Tuten was still sitting there in slot 179, and they pounced on premier running back value. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick192
Rnd6
Jaylen Reed
Jaylen Reed at the Round 6 slot is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the safety. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Pick200
Rnd6
Jarquez Hunter
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Jarquez Hunter in pick No. 200. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick205
Rnd6
Brandon Crenshaw-Dickson
Nothing to complain about; Brandon Crenshaw-Dickson went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick216
Rnd6
KeAndre Lambert-Smith
They will replay KeAndre Lambert-Smith at pick 216 for years; that is how good the value is. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick245
Rnd7
Isaac TeSlaa
Isaac TeSlaa at Round 7, Pick 29 is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick255
Rnd7
Jackson Hawes
They took Jackson Hawes at par in No. 255, which is nothing to complain about. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
