The Chiefs cashed the board's mistake on Williams: B+. The real work happened on the phones. The Chiefs fleeced their trade partners, turning their picks into a noticeably bigger pile than they started with.
The McKinney pick is fine in a vacuum, less so with offensive lineman and quarterback still on the board. They will regret leaving offensive lineman for another day if the season turns on it.
Williams at that cost is the sort of edge that compounds over a roster. Adding De'Von Achane by trade rounds out the weekend beyond the rookies.
A workmanlike haul that should hold up just fine.
Pick Analysis
Pick11
Rnd1
Caleb Downs
In Round 1, Pick 11 they get an enforcer at safety, outstanding value to boot.
Pick40
Rnd2
Caleb Banks
Caleb Banks in pick No. 40 is a bargain the rest of the room will envy. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick74
Rnd3
Eli Stowers
Good things come to war rooms that wait, and Eli Stowers at No. 74 is the proof. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick76
Rnd3
Antonio Williams
Antonio Williams in pick 76 is a gift, value that borders on unfair. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick94
Rnd3
Chandler Rivers
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Chandler Rivers in the Round 3 slot. A minor itch, scratched.
Pick109
Rnd4
C.J. Fite
They let C.J. Fite come to them and pounced at slot 109. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick129
Rnd4
DJ McKinney
They bypassed pressing needs at offensive lineman and quarterback to take DJ McKinney, a cornerback that was not the priority.
Pick147
Rnd5
Jacob Rodriguez
They went early on Jacob Rodriguez in slot 147, and the value did not follow. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick177
Rnd5
Terion Stewart
Terion Stewart at pick 177 is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
