Draft Grade — 49ers
Overall B-
ValueB- NeedB TradesD- FutureA+
Larceny in slot 216 lands the 49ers a B-, Jones and all.

You can lose a draft before you make a pick. The 49ers did it at the trade table, overpaying to chase players the board did not price nearly as high. Good, not great, and the B- says as much.

On value alone, Jones makes the weekend a net positive. That running back hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall.

They will need Barrett to outplay his draft slot in a hurry to justify it.

A workmanlike haul that should hold up just fine.

Pick Analysis
Pick63 Rnd2 Patrick Paul
A market-rate offensive lineman, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Patrick Paul. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick98 Rnd3 Christian Mahogany
By-the-book stuff, Christian Mahogany at the 98th pick squarely in line with his ranking. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick125 Rnd4 Johnny Wilson
Johnny Wilson in the 125th overall pick is fair value, right on his grade. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick132 Rnd4 Jaylin Simpson
No edge and no loss on Jaylin Simpson in pick No. 132; it is a wash and a sensible one. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Pick176 Rnd6 Kamal Hadden
Kamal Hadden slipping to pick 176 is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. A want dressed up as a pick, at a spot they had covered.
Pick209 Rnd6 Michael Barrett
A reach for Michael Barrett in the Round 6 slot; a little patience would have been rewarded. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick216 Rnd6 Elijah Jones
Elijah Jones in pick No. 216 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. They added to a strength when a need was still open elsewhere.
Pick249 Rnd7 Trevin Wallace
The board had Trevin Wallace higher than Round 7, Pick 29, and the linebacker fell to them anyway. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
