a DRAFTING FOR THEBears
Draft Selections
Draft Grade — Bears
Overall
B-
ValueB
NeedB
TradesB-
FutureB-
The Bears left with their quarterback, and a B- to match. Start where it matters. The Bears took Caleb Williams to run the offense for the next decade, and every other decision this weekend bends around that one.
The interior defensive lineman spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at. They banked enough surplus on Hart to cover a lot of smaller sins.
Murphy has a lot of ground to make up just to look fairly priced.
Add it up and it is a good, unfussy class.
Pick Analysis
Pick1
Rnd1
Caleb Williams
Caleb Williams at slot 1 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick9
Rnd1
Rome Odunze
In the 9th pick they get a difference-maker at receiver. A real need, handled.
Pick75
Rnd3
Gabriel Murphy
The board had cheaper options than Gabriel Murphy at the Round 3 slot, and it noticed. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick110
Rnd4
Jaden Hicks
A tidy little value on Jaden Hicks in pick No. 110, a step better than break-even. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
Pick122
Rnd4
Sataoa Laumea
By-the-book stuff, Sataoa Laumea at Round 4, Pick 22 squarely in line with his ranking. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick146
Rnd5
Cam Hart
Cam Hart at pick 146 is money in the bank, a cornerback taken below his worth. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
