Draft Grade — Browns
Overall
B+
ValueB
NeedB
TradesB+
FutureA+
Nothing loud, just a tidy B+ for the Browns. The Browns did not so much draft Shilo Sanders as overpay for him, 28 picks clear of his grade. It sets an uneasy tone for the weekend. They moved the roster forward and banked a B+ for it.
They punted on edge rusher, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest. If one pick saves this weekend, it is Starks. The Browns paired the rookies with proven help, Braden Smith leading the way.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but edge rusher.
Pick Analysis
Pick33
Rnd2
Emeka Egbuka
A clean, defensible pick in the Round 2 slot with a little surplus value in Emeka Egbuka. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick39
Rnd2
Malaki Starks
A quiet steal in the 39th pick: Malaki Starks for less than the market said. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick45
Rnd2
Jihaad Campbell
Jihaad Campbell at slot 45 is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
Pick63
Rnd2
TreVeyon Henderson
Quietly one of the better values of the day, TreVeyon Henderson at the 63rd overall pick. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick67
Rnd3
Donovan Jackson
Donovan Jackson at Round 3, Pick 3 is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the offensive lineman. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick80
Rnd3
Mason Taylor
Mason Taylor at No. 80 nudges the ledger their way without any fuss. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick94
Rnd3
Andrew Mukuba
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Andrew Mukuba in the Round 3 slot. It fills a real need, too.
Pick104
Rnd4
Will Howard
Will Howard in Round 4, Pick 2 is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick133
Rnd4
Malachi Moore
No drama and no debate, Malachi Moore went about where he belonged in pick No. 133. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick148
Rnd5
Mitchell Evans
Good price on Mitchell Evans in slot 148, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick179
Rnd6
Ollie Gordon II
A tidy little value on Ollie Gordon II in the 179th pick, a step better than break-even. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick192
Rnd6
Joshua Gray
Joshua Gray in pick 192 is early enough to raise a brow, if not a full objection. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick200
Rnd6
Addison West
They paid a round early for Addison West in the 200th overall pick, more than the board wanted. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick216
Rnd6
Ja'Corey Brooks
A premium they did not need to pay, Ja'Corey Brooks a notch or two before his time. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick233
Rnd7
Jabbar Muhammad
A straight-up fair deal on Jabbar Muhammad at slot 233, value and slot in agreement. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick240
Rnd7
Roc Taylor
A reach for Roc Taylor in the 240th pick; a little patience would have been rewarded. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick255
Rnd7
Moliki Matavao
A conviction pick on Moliki Matavao at No. 255 that the board grades a round light. The roster fit checks out.
Pick257
Rnd7
Shilo Sanders
They left a pile of value on the table to take Shilo Sanders this early at pick No. 257. A need, and now a little less of one.
