The Falcons turned the phones into found money: B-. The Falcons torched the value chart for Sam Hartman, taking him 61 spots sooner than anyone had him slotted. Call it a sensible B-, earned the boring way.
The trade ledger is the best part of the whole weekend. They will regret leaving offensive lineman for another day if the season turns on it. The Falcons clearly valued win-now help, adding bodies who have done it before.
They left with quarterback solved and the rest of the wish list mostly ticked off.
Nothing here to lose sleep over, and plenty to feel decent about.
Pick Analysis
Pick11
Rnd1
Terrion Arnold
In No. 11 they get an island corner. Need was not the driver here.
Pick23
Rnd1
Chop Robinson
In the 23rd pick they get a disruptor off the edge at fair value. A real need, handled.
Pick74
Rnd3
Brenden Rice
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Brenden Rice. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick79
Rnd3
Jonah Elliss
Jonah Elliss in Round 3, Pick 15 is early enough to raise a brow, if not a full objection. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick109
Rnd4
Mekhi Wingo
A clean, defensible pick in pick No. 109 with a little surplus value in Mekhi Wingo. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick143
Rnd5
Luke McCaffrey
By-the-book stuff, Luke McCaffrey at the 143rd overall pick squarely in line with his ranking. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick197
Rnd6
Sam Hartman
They left a pile of value on the table to take Sam Hartman this early at No. 197. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
