ModestWalrus DRAFTING FOR THE49ers
Draft Selections
Draft Grade — 49ers
Overall
B
ValueA-
NeedB
TradesB-
FutureB-
The steal of the weekend belongs to the 49ers and Haulcy: B. When a board-topper like A.J. Haulcy slides to the 92nd overall pick, you do not overthink it, and the 49ers did not. A sturdy weekend that grades out a B.
The running back hole is the one line item this class does not answer. Job largely done: offensive lineman settled and 5 of 8 of the wish list covered.
They came away with juice, if not much beef up front.
Add it up and it is a good, unfussy class.
Pick Analysis
Pick27
Rnd1
Kenyon Sadiq
Kenyon Sadiq slid further than he should have, and the 27th overall pick is lovely value for the tight end. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick58
Rnd2
KC Concepcion
They barely believed it either: KC Concepcion still on the board at No. 58. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick92
Rnd3
A.J. Haulcy
A.J. Haulcy in pick 92 is a gift, value that borders on unfair. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Pick127
Rnd4
Jaeden Roberts
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Jaeden Roberts at pick No. 127. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick133
Rnd4
Jacob Rodriguez
Taking Jacob Rodriguez in the 133rd pick is close to grand larceny; a linebacker that good had no business lasting this long. The roster fit checks out.
Pick138
Rnd4
Beau Stephens
Beau Stephens in slot 138 is fair value, right on his grade. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick171
Rnd5
Zane Durant
A tidy little value on Zane Durant in the Round 5 slot, a step better than break-even. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
