Draft Grade — Chargers
Overall
B+
ValueB

FutureB
The Chargers won the night they stopped Echoles from sliding. Grade: B+. You build a draft on nights like this. Will Echoles had no business being available in pick No. 60, and the Chargers did the only sane thing and turned in the card. It nets out to a B+, which feels about right.
The phones were where this weekend was really won. If Curry pans out, nobody remembers the price. If not, this is the pick they hear about. The veteran additions, Justin Jefferson chief among them, give the class a floor the rookies alone would not.
In sum, a sensible class that nudges the roster the right way.
Pick Analysis
Pick55
Rnd2
T.J. Moore
A tidy little value on T.J. Moore in the 55th overall pick, a step better than break-even. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick60
Rnd2
Will Echoles
Circle this one: Will Echoles at pick No. 60 is a fall that decides a draft. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick63
Rnd2
A'Mauri Washington
A'Mauri Washington at pick 63 is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick75
Rnd3
Jadan Baugh
Jadan Baugh slid further than he should have, and No. 75 is lovely value for the running back. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick81
Rnd3
Samson Okunlola
A slide stopped in slot 81, with Samson Okunlola worth more than the price. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick86
Rnd3
Brandon Baker
No drama and no debate, Brandon Baker went about where he belonged in the 86th pick. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick87
Rnd3
Kade Pieper
Kade Pieper at Round 3, Pick 23 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick97
Rnd3
Jayden Maiava
They paid sticker price for Jayden Maiava in the Round 3 slot, and that is fine. It fills a real need, too.
Pick113
Rnd4
Devin McCuin
Devin McCuin in pick 113 is fair value, right on his grade. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick122
Rnd4
Brody Foley
They paid up for Brody Foley at the 122nd pick when waiting would have done the job. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick123
Rnd4
John Curry
A premium they did not need to pay, John Curry a notch or two before his time. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick128
Rnd4
Mateen Ibirogba
Mateen Ibirogba in slot 128 is the kind of reach that only looks good if he outplays it. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick141
Rnd5
Ty Benefield
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Ty Benefield at the 141st overall pick. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Pick170
Rnd5
Drew Bobo
They robbed the room for Drew Bobo here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick202
Rnd6
Payton Pierce
Payton Pierce at No. 202 is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. A minor need, but a need all the same.
Pick227
Rnd7
Stephiylan Green
Stephiylan Green in Round 7, Pick 11 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick230
Rnd7
Addison Nichols
They took Addison Nichols at par in pick No. 230, which is nothing to complain about. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick243
Rnd7
Antonio Kite
You do not let a cornerback like Antonio Kite reach the 243rd overall pick and blink. They did not. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick244
Rnd7
D'Antre Robinson
D'Antre Robinson in Round 7, Pick 28 is early enough to raise a brow, if not a full objection. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick253
Rnd7
Smith Snowden
The board fumbled Smith Snowden all the way to pick 253, and they scooped it up. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
