Draft Grade — Cowboys
Overall B
ValueB+ NeedB TradesB- FutureB-
More right than wrong for the Cowboys, and a B to prove it.

The Cowboys did not so much draft Alfred Collins as overpay for him, 64 picks clear of his grade. It sets an uneasy tone for the weekend.

Getting Trapilo where they did is the sort of value that quietly makes a class. If this class has a fault line, it runs straight through cornerback. They left with wide receiver solved and the rest of the wish list mostly ticked off.

The offense got the lion's share of the attention.

All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but cornerback.

Pick Analysis
Pick16 Rnd1 Ashton Jeanty
Good things come to war rooms that wait, and Ashton Jeanty at pick 16 is the proof. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick47 Rnd2 Tyler Booker
Tyler Booker is a better player than pick No. 47 suggests; smart patience, rewarded. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick78 Rnd3 Jay Higgins
Jay Higgins in slot 78 is fair value, right on his grade. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick117 Rnd4 Evan Stewart
A tidy bit of business in Round 4, Pick 16, where Evan Stewart graded well above the range. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick153 Rnd5 Ozzy Trapilo
A offensive lineman of that caliber at the Round 5 slot is the definition of value, full stop. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick169 Rnd5 Derrick Harmon
A top-tier interior defensive lineman at a bargain, Derrick Harmon in the 169th overall pick, plain and simple. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick170 Rnd5 Cashius Howell
By-the-book stuff, Cashius Howell at pick No. 170 squarely in line with his ranking. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Pick171 Rnd5 Jaydn Ott
Jaydn Ott in slot 171 is early enough to raise a brow, if not a full objection. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick189 Rnd6 Tonka Hemingway
Nice patience on Tonka Hemingway, who had no business lasting to the Round 6 slot. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick208 Rnd6 Alfred Collins
Alfred Collins in the 208th overall pick is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
