Mafia DRAFTING FOR THEBills
Draft Selections
Draft Grade — Bills
Overall
B-
ValueB
NeedB
TradesB-
FutureB-
The Bills checked most of the boxes and earned a B-. You can fall in love with a player. You are not supposed to marry him in the wrong round. The Bills did exactly that with Nazir Stackhouse in the 173rd overall pick. More right than wrong, and a B- to match.
They covered a lot of ground and still skipped linebacker, which is a strange place to end up. Landing Martinez that late papers over a lot of smaller sins. Offensive lineman was the priority and it is no longer a question, which is most of the job.
Nearly every premium pick went to that side of the ball.
In sum, a sensible class that nudges the roster the right way.
Pick Analysis
Pick30
Rnd1
Nick Emmanwori
In Round 1, Pick 30 they get a ballhawk on the back end, outstanding value to boot.
Pick56
Rnd2
Benjamin Morrison
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Benjamin Morrison in pick No. 56. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
Pick62
Rnd2
Alfred Collins
Alfred Collins at pick 62 nudges the ledger their way without any fuss. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick109
Rnd4
Tai Felton
Good things come to war rooms that wait, and Tai Felton at the Round 4 slot is the proof. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick132
Rnd4
Antwaun Powell-Ryland
Antwaun Powell-Ryland in the 132nd pick is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick169
Rnd5
Vernon Broughton
They liked Vernon Broughton enough to skip the value, taking him in No. 169. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick170
Rnd5
Damien Martinez
They let Damien Martinez come to them and pounced at Round 5, Pick 32. It fills a real need, too.
Pick173
Rnd5
Nazir Stackhouse
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Nazir Stackhouse. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick177
Rnd6
Jalen McLeod
Jalen McLeod at slot 177 is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick206
Rnd6
Joshua Gray
No edge and no loss on Joshua Gray in the 206th overall pick; it is a wash and a sensible one. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
