Draft Grade — Ravens
Overall C-
ValueC+ NeedB TradesF FutureB+
A costly weekend of dealing drags the Ravens to a C-.

Call it a hunch or call it a gamble, but the Ravens spent slot 243 on Phillip Webb, a name most had 106 spots down the list.

The trade table is where this weekend went wrong. The Starks pick is the one they will point to when this weekend is judged. The Borregales pick is fine in a vacuum, less so with running back and quarterback still on the board.

The running back spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at.

Bottom line, the swing picks will decide whether this ages well.

Pick Analysis
Pick50 Rnd2 Josh Conerly Jr.
Josh Conerly Jr. at No. 50 is money in the bank, a offensive lineman taken below his worth. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick52 Rnd2 Malaki Starks
Malaki Starks in the 52nd overall pick should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
Pick57 Rnd2 Alfred Collins
Alfred Collins at pick No. 57 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick85 Rnd3 Jordan Burch
A market-rate edge rusher, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Jordan Burch. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick86 Rnd3 Charles Grant
They paid sticker price for Charles Grant in pick 86, and that is fine. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick91 Rnd3 David Walker
They reached a country mile for David Walker at Round 3, Pick 27, and the board is aghast. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick129 Rnd4 O'Donnell Fortune
This one needs a full-page explanation: O'Donnell Fortune in the Round 4 slot, miles early. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick136 Rnd4 Andres Borregales
They zigged when the board said zag, taking Andres Borregales at specialist with running back and quarterback open.
Pick146 Rnd5 Elijah Roberts
A big swing on Elijah Roberts at pick No. 146, well ahead of any board in the building. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick176 Rnd5 Dont'e Thornton Jr.
No edge and no loss on Dont'e Thornton Jr. in No. 176; it is a wash and a sensible one. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick183 Rnd6 KeAndre Lambert-Smith
KeAndre Lambert-Smith at the 183rd pick is a conviction pick that outran the value. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick191 Rnd6 JJ Pegues
Nothing to complain about; JJ Pegues went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick203 Rnd6 Nazir Stackhouse
Nazir Stackhouse at the 203rd overall pick is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick204 Rnd6 Hayden Conner
They reached into another round for Hayden Conner, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick212 Rnd6 Jackson Hawes
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Jackson Hawes well ahead of where he belonged. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick243 Rnd7 Phillip Webb
Value said wait; Phillip Webb in slot 243 says they were not listening. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
