The Lions let Stewart fall into their laps, and walked away with a B. Somebody in pick No. 166 was going to get robbed, and it turned out to be the rest of the league. The Lions sat still while Evan Stewart, the No. 118 name on the board, slid all the way to them, then sprinted to the podium. Call it a sensible B, earned the boring way.
The edge rusher spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at. They will need Peterson to outplay his draft slot in a hurry to justify it. They left with cornerback solved and the rest of the wish list mostly ticked off.
They trusted the board more than the depth chart.
In short, they left a little better than they arrived, which is the whole idea.
Pick Analysis
Pick27
Rnd1
Anthony Hill Jr.
In pick No. 27 they get a three-down second-level presence at a price that makes it sweeter. A clean fit for the roster.
Pick97
Rnd3
Chandler Rivers
A cornerback of that caliber at the 97th pick is the definition of value, full stop. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick131
Rnd4
Isaiah Nwokobia
Somehow Isaiah Nwokobia was still sitting there in pick 131, and they pounced on premier safety value. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick166
Rnd5
Evan Stewart
The board fumbled Evan Stewart all the way to Round 5, Pick 28, and they scooped it up. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick188
Rnd6
Shamar Easter
Shamar Easter at slot 188 is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick205
Rnd6
A'Marion Peterson
A'Marion Peterson at No. 205 is a conviction pick that outran the value. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick231
Rnd7
Riley Mahlman
Riley Mahlman in the 231st overall pick lands just on the right side of the ledger. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick240
Rnd7
Jalen Hale
They let Jalen Hale come to them and pounced at the Round 7 slot. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick255
Rnd7
Rueben Owens
Rueben Owens in the Round 7 slot is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. It fills a real need, too.
