FutureA
A masterclass at the trade table lands the Bears a A-. Call it belief, call it a gut call, but Mekhi Wingo at pick 37 is 35 spots clear of consensus, and that is the headline. It holds up to a second look, which is why it earns the A-.
Every deal seemed to tilt their way, which is not luck. A whole weekend of picks and edge rusher is somehow still a want.
That is a wide receiver worth more than the slot they spent on him, plainly. The Chase Young pickup adds a known quantity to a class of unknowns.
It is a haul that will look even better come September.
Pick Analysis
Pick4
Rnd1
Marvin Harrison Jr.
In the 4th pick they get a difference-maker at receiver at fair value. A real need, handled.
Pick5
Rnd1
Olumuyiwa Fashanu
In Round 1, Pick 5 they get protection for the quarterback. A clean fit for the roster.
Pick36
Rnd2
Troy Fautanu
They paid sticker price for Troy Fautanu in slot 36, and that is fine. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick37
Rnd2
Mekhi Wingo
This one needs a full-page explanation: Mekhi Wingo in the 37th overall pick, miles early. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick69
Rnd3
Brian Thomas Jr.
Nice patience on Brian Thomas Jr., who had no business lasting to No. 69. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick105
Rnd4
Jaheim Bell
A wild overpay on Jaheim Bell in the Round 4 slot, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Pick128
Rnd4
Jordan Travis
A conviction pick on Jordan Travis at pick No. 128 that the board grades a round light. It fills a real need, too.
