Draft Grade — Rams
Overall
C+
ValueB
NeedB
TradesD
FutureB
The Rams bled value on every deal, hence the C+. You can lose a draft before you make a pick. The Rams did it at the trade table, overpaying to chase players the board did not price nearly as high.
Simpson falling to them is the kind of break a good board is built to catch. The Travis reach is the anchor dragging on the value grade.
That interior defensive lineman hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall.
Not a disaster, not a triumph, just a middling class.
Pick Analysis
Pick23
Rnd1
Brian Thomas Jr.
No drama and no debate, Brian Thomas Jr. went about where he belonged in the 23rd overall pick. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick26
Rnd1
Dallas Turner
In No. 26 they get a problem off the edge, outstanding value to boot. A clean fit for the roster.
Pick83
Rnd3
Mike Sainristil
A tidy bit of business in the Round 3 slot, where Mike Sainristil graded well above the range. A minor need, but a need all the same.
Pick99
Rnd3
Jaden Hicks
They read the board right and Jaden Hicks was the payoff at Round 3, Pick 36. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick108
Rnd4
MarShawn Lloyd
Nice patience on MarShawn Lloyd, who had no business lasting to slot 108. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick129
Rnd4
Blake Fisher
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Blake Fisher at the 129th pick. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick154
Rnd5
Jaylin Simpson
Jaylin Simpson is a better player than pick 154 suggests; smart patience, rewarded. A want dressed up as a pick, at a spot they had covered.
Pick155
Rnd5
Jordan Travis
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Jordan Travis. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick196
Rnd6
Steele Chambers
No edge and no loss on Steele Chambers in pick 196; it is a wash and a sensible one. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Pick209
Rnd6
Erick All
Value with a capital V on Erick All in pick No. 209, a genuine coup. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick213
Rnd6
Caedan Wallace
Good price on Caedan Wallace in slot 213, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick217
Rnd6
Evan Williams
Evan Williams in the Round 6 slot is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick254
Rnd7
Miyan Williams
They paid sticker price for Miyan Williams in Round 7, Pick 34, and that is fine. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
