Draft Grade — Bears
Overall

FutureA
The Bears turned the phones into found money: A-. Nobody else had Moliki Matavao anywhere near pick No. 233. The Bears did, by 37 spots, and that gap is the whole story. Add it all up and it grades out a clean A-.
That is a running back worth more than the slot they spent on him, plainly. They robbed the room blind at the table, and it lifts the grade on its own.
A whole weekend of picks and linebacker is somehow still a want.
Bottom line, with Mike Green leading the way, this is a class that should pay off fast and rarely be regretted.
Pick Analysis
Pick20
Rnd1
Mike Green
In the Round 1 slot they get juice off the edge. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Pick41
Rnd2
Nick Emmanwori
Nick Emmanwori in No. 41 is a gift, value that borders on unfair. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
Pick44
Rnd2
Tyleik Williams
A tidy little value on Tyleik Williams in slot 44, a step better than break-even. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick51
Rnd2
Kaleb Johnson
Kaleb Johnson at Round 2, Pick 19 is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the running back. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick72
Rnd3
Charles Grant
A wild overpay on Charles Grant in pick 72, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick148
Rnd5
Logan Brown
By-the-book stuff, Logan Brown at pick No. 148 squarely in line with his ranking. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick149
Rnd5
Ty Robinson
Ty Robinson at slot 149 is a conviction pick that outran the value. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick227
Rnd7
Donovan Edwards
A top-tier running back at a bargain, Donovan Edwards in the 227th pick, plain and simple. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick233
Rnd7
Moliki Matavao
Moliki Matavao in pick 233 is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. A minor itch, scratched.
Pick240
Rnd7
Jaylin Smith
They reached a country mile for Jaylin Smith at the Round 7 slot, and the board is aghast. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick252
Rnd7
Sam Brown Jr.
A reasonable price with a little left over, Sam Brown Jr. in the 252nd overall pick. A need, and now a little less of one.
