Draft Grade — Patriots

FutureA
The Patriots worked the phones like thieves and earned a A-. Call it belief, call it a gut call, but Hayden Conner at Round 7, Pick 4 is 45 spots clear of consensus, and that is the headline.
They robbed the room blind at the table, and it lifts the grade on its own. That Starks pick is the receipt they will wave around later. That quarterback hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall.
The imported veterans give this class a floor the draft picks could not on their own.
Bottom line, with Josh Simmons leading the way, this is a class that should pay off fast and rarely be regretted.
Pick Analysis
Pick20
Rnd1
Josh Simmons
In the 20th pick they get protection for the quarterback at fair value.
Pick39
Rnd2
Emeka Egbuka
Value with a capital V on Emeka Egbuka in the Round 2 slot, a genuine coup. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick45
Rnd2
JT Tuimoloau
A straight-up fair deal on JT Tuimoloau at pick No. 45, value and slot in agreement. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick51
Rnd2
Malaki Starks
Malaki Starks in pick 51 is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick69
Rnd3
Omarr Norman-Lott
Omarr Norman-Lott at No. 69 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick106
Rnd4
Jake Majors
Jake Majors at the 106th overall pick is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick144
Rnd5
LeQuint Allen
Good things come to war rooms that wait, and LeQuint Allen at pick 144 is the proof. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick217
Rnd7
Oronde Gadsden II
Somehow Oronde Gadsden II was still sitting there in Round 7, Pick 1, and they pounced on premier tight end value. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick220
Rnd7
Hayden Conner
Hayden Conner at the Round 7 slot is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick238
Rnd7
Sam Brown Jr.
They paid up for Sam Brown Jr. at slot 238 when waiting would have done the job. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
