Draft Grade — Bears
Overall B+
ValueB- NeedB TradesB FutureA+
A solid, sensible weekend for the Bears: B+.

Somewhere a scout is still blinking. The Bears spent Round 4, Pick 25 on Braelon Allen, a name the board had a full 30 spots lower.

That linebacker hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall. The Bears paired the rookies with proven help, Curtis Samuel leading the way. A modest surplus at the table, banked quietly.

The hoard sets up next April more than it helps this September.

A tidy weekend of work that should hold up just fine.

Pick Analysis
Pick17 Rnd1 Olumuyiwa Fashanu
In the 17th overall pick they get a building block for the line at fair value.
Pick27 Rnd1 Tyler Nubin
In pick 27 they get a ballhawk on the back end. More want than need.
Pick29 Rnd1 Chop Robinson
In slot 29 they get a disruptor off the edge. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Pick33 Rnd2 Xavier Legette
No drama and no debate, Xavier Legette went about where he belonged in pick No. 33. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick35 Rnd2 Kalen King
Kalen King at the 35th pick is right where the board had him, plain and simple. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick38 Rnd2 Jonah Elliss
No edge and no loss on Jonah Elliss in Round 2, Pick 6; it is a wash and a sensible one. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick44 Rnd2 Devontez Walker
Devontez Walker in the 44th overall pick is exactly on the number, no argument either way. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick46 Rnd2 Jackson Powers-Johnson
A market-rate offensive lineman, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Jackson Powers-Johnson. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick48 Rnd2 Graham Barton
A straight-up fair deal on Graham Barton at Round 2, Pick 16, value and slot in agreement. The roster fit checks out.
Pick50 Rnd2 T'Vondre Sweat
T'Vondre Sweat in the 50th pick is early enough to raise a brow, if not a full objection. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick57 Rnd2 Cooper Beebe
They left a pile of value on the table to take Cooper Beebe this early at No. 57. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick75 Rnd3 Johnny Wilson
They took Johnny Wilson at par in pick No. 75, which is nothing to complain about. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick125 Rnd4 Braelon Allen
Value said wait; Braelon Allen in pick 125 says they were not listening. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick145 Rnd5 Joe Milton III
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Joe Milton III well ahead of where he belonged. It fills a real need, too.
Pick146 Rnd5 Theo Johnson
By-the-book stuff, Theo Johnson at the Round 5 slot squarely in line with his ranking. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
