Draft Grade — Cowboys
Overall B-
ValueB NeedB TradesB- FutureB-
The Cowboys robbed the room for Lee III. Final grade: B-.

You could see the war room lean forward. Will Lee III at the Round 4 slot is the sort of fall that does not happen, except it just did. Call it a sensible B-, earned the boring way.

If Gentry pans out, nobody remembers the price. If not, this is the pick they hear about. A whole weekend of picks and wide receiver is somehow still a want. They left with cornerback solved and the rest of the wish list mostly ticked off.

Solid rather than spectacular, and there is nothing wrong with that.

Pick Analysis
Pick12 Rnd1 David Bailey
David Bailey at the 12th pick is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
Pick20 Rnd1 Arvell Reese
In pick 20 they get the heartbeat of the defense, outstanding value to boot. The biggest hole, addressed.
Pick112 Rnd4 Will Lee III
The board fumbled Will Lee III all the way to pick No. 112, and they scooped it up. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick150 Rnd5 Davison Igbinosun
Davison Igbinosun at the Round 5 slot is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick177 Rnd5 Bud Clark
No drama and no debate, Bud Clark went about where he belonged in No. 177. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
Pick215 Rnd6 Isaac Smith
They paid sticker price for Isaac Smith in Round 6, Pick 36, and that is fine. It is more luxury than necessity; they were already set here.
Pick221 Rnd7 Riley Mahlman
They took Riley Mahlman at par in slot 221, which is nothing to complain about. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick225 Rnd7 Eric Gentry
Eric Gentry in the 225th overall pick is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
