You can lose a draft before you make a pick. The Vikings did it at the trade table, overpaying to chase players the board did not price nearly as high. Too much went sideways, and the D is the honest tally.

Leaving quarterback unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall. The cost of the Lachey reach is exactly the players who went right after him. That is a running back worth more than the slot they spent on him, plainly.

The James Cook pickup adds a known quantity to a class of unknowns.
