Draft Grade — Bears
Overall F
ValueC NeedB- TradesF FutureC+
The Bears left with their quarterback, and a F to match.

The Trajan Jeffcoat selection is the head-turner. The Bears reached 62 spots for him, and it will define how this weekend is remembered. It bottoms out at a F.

The trades bled value they could not afford to lose. Everything downstream of Caleb Williams depends on Caleb Williams, and the building knows it. The Holker pick reads as want over need, and the roster will feel it at interior defensive lineman and linebacker.

A whole weekend of picks and interior defensive lineman is somehow still a want. The James pick alone nudges the whole weekend up a notch.

In the end, a class that has to defy its grades just to matter.

Pick Analysis
Pick1 Rnd1 Caleb Williams
In Round 1, Pick 1 they get a franchise quarterback. A real need, handled.
Pick14 Rnd1 Jackson Powers-Johnson
In No. 14 they get a plug-and-play piece up front, reach and all. A clean fit for the roster.
Pick43 Rnd2 Jonathon Brooks
A straight-up fair deal on Jonathon Brooks at the 43rd pick, value and slot in agreement. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick44 Rnd2 Devontez Walker
A big swing on Devontez Walker at slot 44, well ahead of any board in the building. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick62 Rnd2 Brenden Rice
A wild overpay on Brenden Rice in the 62nd overall pick, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick75 Rnd3 Cooper Beebe
A market-rate offensive lineman, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Cooper Beebe. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick77 Rnd3 Ben Sinnott
They talked themselves into Ben Sinnott at the Round 3 slot, and the board did not agree. A minor itch, scratched.
Pick101 Rnd4 DJ James
Good things come to war rooms that wait, and DJ James at the 101st overall pick is the proof. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick103 Rnd4 Johnny Wilson
Johnny Wilson at No. 103 is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick123 Rnd4 Luke McCaffrey
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Luke McCaffrey well ahead of where he belonged. It fills a real need, too.
Pick127 Rnd4 Dallin Holker
The eyebrow-raiser of the weekend. They went tight end with Dallin Holker while clear needs at interior defensive lineman and linebacker sat open.
Pick131 Rnd4 Jaylin Simpson
Jaylin Simpson in pick No. 131 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick134 Rnd4 Justin Eboigbe
A reach on Justin Eboigbe in slot 134; the board had better options right there. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick138 Rnd5 Theo Johnson
They paid sticker price for Theo Johnson in the 138th pick, and that is fine. It is more luxury than necessity; they were already set here.
Pick142 Rnd5 Roger Rosengarten
Roger Rosengarten at the Round 5 slot is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick143 Rnd5 Brandon Coleman
Brandon Coleman at pick No. 143 is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. The roster fit checks out.
Pick164 Rnd5 Tanner McLachlan
This one needs a full-page explanation: Tanner McLachlan in slot 164, miles early. They added to a strength when a need was still open elsewhere.
Pick181 Rnd6 Tahj Washington
A premium they did not need to pay, Tahj Washington a notch or two before his time. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick199 Rnd6 Tip Reiman
They reached into another round for Tip Reiman, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. They doubled down on a strength rather than a need.
Pick216 Rnd6 Jowon Briggs
Value said wait; Jowon Briggs in No. 216 says they were not listening. It fits a board better than it fits this team.
Pick220 Rnd6 Jordan Whittington
Jordan Whittington at Round 6, Pick 45 is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick222 Rnd7 Jalen Coker
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Jalen Coker. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick241 Rnd7 Trajan Jeffcoat
Trajan Jeffcoat at Round 7, Pick 21 is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
