Davis should have been long gone. The Falcons pounced, and earned a D. Somebody took the Falcons to the cleaners. The deals they made bled real value, and the whole class wears it.
They will regret leaving interior defensive lineman for another day if the season turns on it. The cost of the Oben reach is exactly the players who went right after him. They banked enough surplus on Davis to cover a lot of smaller sins.
In the end, a class the front office will want to grow past quickly.
Pick Analysis
Pick6
Rnd1
Will Campbell
In pick No. 6 they get a plug-and-play piece up front. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Pick28
Rnd1
Emery Jones Jr.
In Round 1, Pick 28 they get a blindside protector at fair value. The biggest hole, addressed.
Pick53
Rnd2
Tacario Davis
Tacario Davis at No. 53 is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Pick60
Rnd2
Drew Allar
Drew Allar at the 60th overall pick nudges the ledger their way without any fuss. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick85
Rnd3
J. Michael Sturdivant
No drama and no debate, J. Michael Sturdivant went about where he belonged in the Round 3 slot. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick117
Rnd4
R.J. Oben
They left a pile of value on the table to take R.J. Oben this early at slot 117. It fills a real need, too.
Pick149
Rnd5
Collin Oliver
Collin Oliver in the 149th overall pick should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
