FutureA
A franchise passer in Sanders headlines a D weekend for the Cowboys. Somebody took the Cowboys to the cleaners. The deals they made bled real value, and the whole class wears it. Hard to defend, and the D reflects that.
The whole projection now runs through Shedeur Sanders; hit there and everything else looks smarter. Leaving linebacker unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall.
Baron has a lot of ground to make up just to look fairly priced. The Carmona Jr. value carries more weight than any single miss elsewhere.
The verdict is not kind, and fairly so; this class has a hill to climb.
Pick Analysis
Pick13
Rnd1
Shedeur Sanders
In pick 13 they get the face of the franchise. A real need, handled.
Pick26
Rnd1
Nic Scourton
In pick No. 26 they get a bendy edge with upside, outstanding value to boot. More want than need.
Pick42
Rnd2
Ajani Cornelius
They jumped the gun on Ajani Cornelius, taking him earlier than his grade liked. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick58
Rnd2
Earnest Greene III
Earnest Greene III at Round 2, Pick 26 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick74
Rnd3
Nicholas Singleton
A reach on Nicholas Singleton in the Round 3 slot; the board had better options right there. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick90
Rnd3
J. Michael Sturdivant
They paid sticker price for J. Michael Sturdivant in No. 90, and that is fine. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick109
Rnd4
Raheim Sanders
Raheim Sanders in the 109th pick is exactly on the number, no argument either way. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick117
Rnd4
Nick Emmanwori
By-the-book stuff, Nick Emmanwori at slot 117 squarely in line with his ranking. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
Pick122
Rnd4
Davison Igbinosun
They paid up for Davison Igbinosun at the 122nd overall pick when waiting would have done the job. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick141
Rnd5
Fernando Carmona Jr.
Fernando Carmona Jr. in slot 141 is a bargain the rest of the room will envy. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick149
Rnd5
Tyler Baron
A real head-scratcher, Tyler Baron in No. 149 is miles ahead of his ranking. It is more luxury than necessity; they were already set here.
Pick154
Rnd5
Will Sheppard
Will Sheppard at the Round 5 slot is a clear overpay, with better names still on the board. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick186
Rnd6
Alfred Collins
Alfred Collins slid further than he should have, and pick 186 is lovely value for the interior defensive lineman. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
