Draft Grade — Cowboys
Overall
D
ValueC+

FutureB
The phones sank the Cowboys this weekend: D. The Cowboys clearly saw something nobody else did in Shemar Turner, taking him 35 picks ahead of his grade. The board is not convinced.
The trade table is where this weekend went wrong. With cornerback and tight end unsolved, spending premium capital on edge rusher is the choice that costs them. The cornerback spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at.
In the end, a class the front office will want to grow past quickly.
Pick Analysis
Pick7
Rnd1
Tetairoa McMillan
In Round 1, Pick 7 they get a No. 1 receiver. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Pick26
Rnd1
Jonah Savaiinaea
In No. 26 they get a blindside protector at fair value. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Pick39
Rnd2
Emery Jones Jr.
Emery Jones Jr. at the 39th overall pick is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick58
Rnd2
Nicholas Singleton
A big swing on Nicholas Singleton at pick 58, well ahead of any board in the building. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick62
Rnd2
Drew Allar
A slide stopped in slot 62, with Drew Allar worth more than the price. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick71
Rnd3
Shemar Turner
Shemar Turner at the Round 3 slot is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Pick87
Rnd3
Jamon Dumas-Johnson
They went early on Jamon Dumas-Johnson in Round 3, Pick 23, and the value did not follow. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick90
Rnd3
Raheim Sanders
A wild overpay on Raheim Sanders in the 90th pick, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick91
Rnd3
Derrick Moore
They bypassed pressing needs at cornerback and tight end to take Derrick Moore, an edge rusher that was not the priority.
Pick122
Rnd4
Nick Emmanwori
By-the-book stuff, Nick Emmanwori at pick 122 squarely in line with his ranking. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
Pick154
Rnd5
Alfred Collins
Alfred Collins in No. 154 is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick186
Rnd6
Colbie Young
Colbie Young at pick No. 186 is a conviction pick that outran the value. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
