The Commanders kept it disciplined and banked a B.

You can fall in love with a player. You are not supposed to marry him in the wrong round. The Commanders did exactly that with Clay Webb in the 207th overall pick. It does the job without flash, and the B reflects it.

A whole weekend of picks and edge rusher is somehow still a want. Landing Etienne that late papers over a lot of smaller sins. Wide receiver was the priority and it is no longer a question, which is most of the job.

A competent weekend that does not make headlines and does not need to.

Pick29 Rnd1 Matthew Golden

In No. 29 they get a true top target, outstanding value to boot. Exactly the need they had to hit.

Pick61 Rnd2 Darien Porter

They paid a round early for Darien Porter in slot 61, more than the board wanted. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.

Pick79 Rnd3 Mason Taylor

Mason Taylor at Round 3, Pick 15 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.

Pick207 Rnd6 Clay Webb

A real head-scratcher, Clay Webb in the 207th pick is miles ahead of his ranking. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.

Pick238 Rnd7 Trevor Etienne

Trevor Etienne in the Round 7 slot should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. It fills a real need, too.
