Draft Grade — Cowboys
Overall D-
ValueB- NeedB TradesF FutureB-
A costly weekend of dealing drags the Cowboys to a D-.

If confidence were a draft strategy, the Cowboys would have aced it. Chip Trayanum at No. 186 is 97 spots clear of where he belonged.

Overpaying at the table undid a lot of the good work elsewhere. They covered a lot of ground and still skipped cornerback, which is a strange place to end up.

Ratledge at that cost is the sort of edge that compounds over a roster. They left with wide receiver solved and the rest of the wish list mostly ticked off.

Bottom line, they will need several of these picks to beat their grades just to break even, and cornerback is still a hole.

Pick Analysis
Pick26 Rnd1 Nic Scourton
A quiet steal in No. 26: Nic Scourton for less than the market said. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
Pick58 Rnd2 Earnest Greene III
Earnest Greene III in pick 58 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick62 Rnd2 Drew Allar
Good things come to war rooms that wait, and Drew Allar at Round 2, Pick 30 is the proof. It fills a real need, too.
Pick83 Rnd3 Nicholas Singleton
A market-rate running back, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Nicholas Singleton. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick90 Rnd3 J. Michael Sturdivant
No drama and no debate, J. Michael Sturdivant went about where he belonged in slot 90. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick91 Rnd3 Tate Ratledge
A offensive lineman of that caliber at the 91st pick is the definition of value, full stop. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick115 Rnd4 Riley Leonard
The board fumbled Riley Leonard all the way to pick No. 115, and they scooped it up. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick122 Rnd4 Collin Oliver
No edge and no loss on Collin Oliver in No. 122; it is a wash and a sensible one. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick144 Rnd5 Akheem Mesidor
Akheem Mesidor in the 144th overall pick is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. They doubled down on a strength rather than a need.
Pick154 Rnd5 Will Sheppard
Will Sheppard at slot 154 is a clear overpay, with better names still on the board. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick186 Rnd6 Chip Trayanum
They talked themselves into Chip Trayanum at the Round 6 slot, and the board did not agree. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
