Draft Grade — Chargers
Overall D
ValueB- NeedB TradesF FutureB-
A costly weekend of dealing drags the Chargers to a D.

There is reaching, and then there is Mycah Pittman at the 226th pick. The Chargers jumped the board by 128 and dared it to prove them wrong.

The McConkey pick is the one they will point to when this weekend is judged. The dealing is the wound this class cannot quite close.

The roster is better shaped than it was, with edge rusher chief among the fixes. The skill positions did well by the weekend.

A rough weekend that leaves the roster with more questions than answers.

Pick Analysis
Pick5 Rnd1 Brock Bowers
Brock Bowers at the 5th overall pick is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick37 Rnd2 Jackson Powers-Johnson
Jackson Powers-Johnson in Round 2, Pick 5 is early enough to raise a brow, if not a full objection. The roster fit checks out.
Pick69 Rnd3 Roman Wilson
A reach for Roman Wilson in pick 69; a little patience would have been rewarded. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick83 Rnd3 Blake Fisher
They paid a round early for Blake Fisher in slot 83, more than the board wanted. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick99 Rnd3 Mike Sainristil
Mike Sainristil in No. 99 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick105 Rnd4 Gabriel Murphy
Gabriel Murphy at the Round 4 slot is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick142 Rnd5 Ladd McConkey
A wide receiver of that caliber at slot 142 is the definition of value, full stop. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick157 Rnd5 Michael Hall Jr.
You do not let an interior defensive lineman like Michael Hall Jr. reach pick No. 157 and blink. They did not. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick165 Rnd5 Frank Gore Jr.
They took Frank Gore Jr. at par in the 165th pick, which is nothing to complain about. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick183 Rnd6 Joe Milton III
Joe Milton III at the Round 6 slot is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick226 Rnd7 Mycah Pittman
A big swing on Mycah Pittman at the 226th overall pick, well ahead of any board in the building. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
