Draft Grade — Cowboys
Overall
D-
ValueC+

FutureB-
The Cowboys bled value on every deal, hence the D-. When the story of this class is written, it opens with Chip Trayanum at pick 191, a reach of 90 spots that the board flatly disagrees with. The math is unkind, and the D- follows.
The dealing is the wound this class cannot quite close. The Cowboys indulged a want in Moore while a need in tight end and interior defensive lineman stayed open.
They will regret leaving tight end for another day if the season turns on it. They banked enough surplus on Igbinosun to cover a lot of smaller sins.
Add it up and it is a weekend the front office will hope everyone forgets, tight end very much included.
Pick Analysis
Pick28
Rnd1
Abdul Carter
In Round 1, Pick 28 they get a downhill thumper at linebacker, and a steal at that. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Pick58
Rnd2
Josh Simmons
They went early on Josh Simmons in the Round 2 slot, and the value did not follow. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick63
Rnd2
Danny Stutsman
No drama and no debate, Danny Stutsman went about where he belonged in the 63rd pick. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick90
Rnd3
J. Michael Sturdivant
No edge and no loss on J. Michael Sturdivant in slot 90; it is a wash and a sensible one. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick91
Rnd3
Riley Leonard
They paid sticker price for Riley Leonard in the 91st overall pick, and that is fine. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick92
Rnd3
Raheim Sanders
A reach on Raheim Sanders in No. 92; the board had better options right there. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick104
Rnd4
Wyatt Milum
Wyatt Milum at Round 4, Pick 8 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick122
Rnd4
Nick Emmanwori
Nick Emmanwori at the 122nd pick is right where the board had him, plain and simple. A minor itch, scratched.
Pick127
Rnd4
Trey Moore
A curious use of the Round 4 slot. Tight end and interior defensive lineman needed the pick; an OLB-EDGE in Trey Moore did not.
Pick154
Rnd5
Davison Igbinosun
A tidy bit of business in the 154th overall pick, where Davison Igbinosun graded well above the range. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick186
Rnd6
Colbie Young
Colbie Young at slot 186 jumps the queue by a touch more than is comfortable. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick191
Rnd6
Chip Trayanum
They left a pile of value on the table to take Chip Trayanum this early at pick No. 191. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
