Draft Grade — Bengals
Overall D-
ValueB NeedB- TradesF FutureB-
Grand theft in slot 205: the Bengals steal Hill and grade out a D-.

The phones were a trap the Bengals kept walking into, shipping out surplus on nearly every deal.

Landing Hill that late papers over a lot of smaller sins. They punted on quarterback, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest.

Add it up and it is a weekend the front office will hope everyone forgets, quarterback very much included.

Pick Analysis
Pick17 Rnd1 Mykel Williams
In pick No. 17 they get a double-digit-sack hope. More want than need.
Pick39 Rnd2 Tyler Booker
By-the-book stuff, Tyler Booker at the 39th pick squarely in line with his ranking. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick49 Rnd2 Xavier Watts
A tidy little value on Xavier Watts in the Round 2 slot, a step better than break-even. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
Pick81 Rnd3 Tre Harris
Circle this one: Tre Harris at No. 81 is a fall that decides a draft. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick119 Rnd4 Anthony Belton
Nothing to complain about; Anthony Belton went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick148 Rnd5 Mitchell Evans
They read the board right and Mitchell Evans was the payoff at pick 148. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick153 Rnd5 Jake Majors
Steal is underselling it; Jake Majors at pick No. 153 is a heist with the alarm still ringing. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick205 Rnd6 Tommi Hill
They barely believed it either: Tommi Hill still on the board at the Round 6 slot. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick233 Rnd7 Corey Kiner
Corey Kiner in the 233rd overall pick is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick236 Rnd7 Jack Kiser
They robbed the room for Jack Kiser here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick240 Rnd7 CJ West
CJ West at the 240th pick is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick248 Rnd7 John Williams
Good price on John Williams in No. 248, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. A need, and now a little less of one.
